Why Makassar?
Many people ask us where the name Makassar comes from. I actually came up with it during my time in Nashville, while I was working with a number of musicians. Being around so many talented people got me curious about the instruments they played, and I started learning about the different types of wood used to make them. That’s when I came across Makassar, a striking black ebony wood that comes from the port town of Makassar, Indonesia.
The more I learned about this wood, the more it resonated with me. Makassar is known for being strong, resilient, and beautifully precise—a material that lasts for generations. Those are qualities that I also value in a law firm: being reliable, handling complex challenges with care, and producing work that really stands the test of time.
It felt like a natural fit to use the name Makassar for the firm. Just as the wood is crafted with care into instruments that create music, we aim to bring that same attention and craftsmanship to our work with clients—helping them navigate challenges, build something lasting, and get the results they need.
